LEARN ABOUT MANGAREVA
Here's something that might surprise you: Despite their name, Tahitian pearls don't all come from the island of Tahiti. They're grown throughout French Polynesia, across its beautiful islands and lagoons.
Ours come specifically from Mangareva, in the Gambier Islands of French Polynesia. It's a remote part of the Pacific, surrounded by beautiful lagoons where pearl farming has become an important part of island life.
It's a fascinating process that takes time, patience and a whole lot of care.

Every Tahitian pearl begins its journey inside a living black-lipped oyster, known as Pinctada margaritifera.

With a little help from pearl farmers, the oyster slowly builds layers of nacre around a nucleus. From raising the oyster to harvesting the finished pearl, the entire process can take up to four years.

And here's the beautiful part. No factory. No production line. Just nature doing what nature does best.
Being a Pacific woman, there's something incredibly special to me about working with pearls that come from our part of the world.
When I look at a Tahitian pearl, I don't just see a beautiful gem. I think about where it began. The islands. The people who farmed it. The journey it's taken before arriving here in New Zealand.
And then I think about you. A woman somewhere opening her pink Shahana Jewels box, perhaps buying her very first Tahitian pearl.
I love that something grown in our ocean can find its way into your life and become part of your own story. And that, beautiful, is why these pearls will always have a special place in my heart.
With love,
