PEARL KNOWLEDGE

Why do my pearls have marks on them?

Here's something every woman should know before buying her first Tahitian pearl.

Real pearls aren't made in a factory. They grow inside a living oyster.

And nature doesn't produce identical, perfectly smooth pearls every time. You might notice a little dent, a ridge, a bump or some unevenness on yours. That's completely normal!

These natural characteristics develop as the oyster builds layers of nacre around the pearl. No two pearls are exactly alike. And that's part of what makes them so special.

Real. Natural. Beautiful.

COMMON NATURAL FEATURES

Every pearl tells a story

Natural markings are part of a pearl's formation. Cracks and damage from impact are different and shouldn't be confused with normal surface characteristics. Here are five natural characteristics you might notice on your Tahitian pearl.

1. Ridges

1. Ridges

Little lines or rings that form as layers of nacre develop. Some are subtle, while others are more noticeable.

2. Bumps or Lumps

2. Bumps or Lumps

Small raised areas that develop naturally as the pearl grows, giving it its own unique character.

3. Uneven Shapes

3. Uneven Shapes

Not every pearl grows perfectly round! Some develop beautiful curves, drops or irregular shapes.

4. Surface Texture

4. Surface Texture

Tiny pits, marks or uneven areas that naturally occur on a pearl's surface.

A LITTLE NOTE FROM SHAHANA

Imperfections make it real

You know what I love about Tahitian pearls? They remind me a little of us women.

We're not all the same shape, size or colour. We have our own little marks, curves and differences. And none of that takes away from who we are.

It's the same with pearls. Some have beautifully smooth surfaces. Others have a ridge, a little dent or a shape that's completely their own. And sometimes, the pearl with a few little markings has the most incredible lustre and glow!

Because a little mark doesn't cancel out a beautiful pearl.

So when yours arrives, take a moment to really look at it. Turn it in the light. Notice its glow, its shape and those little details that make it different.

Your pearl wasn't made by a machine. It was made by nature.

And that's something worth appreciating.

With love,
Shahana xx
